My wife and I
traveled on the Azamara Journey which started
from Piraeus on the 3rd November 2010 and
occupied Stateroom 7093. Critics should state at
the outset what part of the ship he occupied,
whether they paid the full price out of their
own pocket, what special privileges he was
afforded and any other vested interests before
his comments can be credible. Hard to imagine
that once recognized he would not receive the
Rolls Royce treatment.
1. Meals were
tailored to the palates of Americans.
2. Greek meals for first two days were anything
other than Greek.
3. Although the ship stopped in Egypt, Israel
and Italy traditional meals from these countries
were not evident. If I wanted American cuisine I
know where to go.
4. buffet food that should have been hot was
cold as a result of say a butt of beef laying on
the cutting board for as long as it took to be
consumed, as were the chips etc. etc.
5. Mediterranean night was excellent in terms of
the quality variance of the food.
6. Dining room was a shambles, as it was one
sitting and if you did not get a table you were
told to wait in an overcrowded utility area
until a table became available.
7. Grill served a good selection, but it was all
American hot dogs, hamburgers etc. no kebabs
etc.
8. Ship sailing in the Mediterranean but only
legal tender was US$ and no Euros -
extraordinary.
9. Gift shop sold overpriced and low quality
items.
10. Swimming pool could only accommodate 5
persons at any one time.
11. Shore excursions overpriced.
12. On board shore excursion staff
inexperienced, inept and only interest was to
make a sale.
13. Counter staff needed to be goaded to provide
information especially to those that opted out
of the shore excursions.
14. Considering most were elderly folk, there
should have been more free shuttles to down town
area eg. Haifa and Sorrento.
15. Where was the local entertainment from
Greece, Egypt and Italy? Note the Israeli
entertainers got a guernsey [they were ok].
16. Overall fed mostly of broken down American
entertainers that had seen better days.
17. Cabin crew excellent.
18. Wait crew excellent.
19. Poor value for money.
20. Suggest one travels with Royal Caribbean for
half the price and twice the value.
CEO Larry Pimental takes full responsibility for
this debacle, as he gets more money than anyone
else; not because he works hard, but for the
responsibility he has.
As a matter of
interest the travel agent that talked me into
this debacle has copped a mouthful from me and
told to lift her game.
