I sailed on the newly refurbished Carnival Fantasy in
October of 2008. I was very impressed with this ship. She
looked brand new. The Promenade has new leather sofas and
chairs, as well as some Cleopatra style loungers. There is
new furniture in the aft lounge as well as multiple TV’s
(one in each corner of the lounge and one in the center).
The main dining rooms have new
chairs and the food was superb. The Pumpkin soup and
Chocolate melting cake were my favorite. The lido dining
has been redone as well, with new chairs and better
organization of food service stations. Pizza and ice cream
are still available 24 hours, along with room service.
I was most impressed with the
new look of the lido deck pool area. The big slide has been
moved to the waterworks area at the back of the ship, one
deck up. The main pool is now surrounded by palm trees, new
lounge chairs and a stage for the band and other
activities. The water works area is located one deck up
from Lido and is at the back of the ship. It includes a
double slide which ends in a shallow pool, the big twister
slide which actually goes over the edge of the ship, and a
sprinkler system for quick cool offs.
My favorite area was the new
Serenity Adults Only section at the back of the ship on the
Promenade Deck. This area has new lounge chairs, umbrellas
and two hot tubs. No pool in this area. It is really quite
and serene.
The old fashioned track
lighting has been replaced in the staterooms making the room
appear larger. The bedding is so comfortable you don’t want
to get out of bed. The bathrooms have new tile, fluffy
towels and a bathrobe for your use on board.
The ports of call on this
sailing were Progresso and Cozumel. The pier at Progresso
has been updated since I was there last so you don’t have
that long walk from the ship to the pier shopping area.
There is now a Los Cinco Soles right at the pier (try the
guacamole at Pancho’s Backyard if you haven’t). The pier in
Cozumel is bigger and better than before the hurricanes with
most of the stores you would normally find downtown (Los
Cinco Soles, Diamond’s International and Viva Mexico). Be
sure to fill out the raffle tickets you get in your Capers
daily paper and drop them off at the stores. Several of the
stores still offer a free gift just for coming in.
I have sailed with Carnival 10
times and will continue to do so. One thing that sets
Carnival apart from other lines is the friendliness of their
staff and crew. They really make you feel part of the
family. Feel free to email me if you have other questions
about this ship or cruise line. |
