This was the inaugural sailing of the Splendor for a quick
2-day getaway to the Bahamas. I wanted to see the "newest
ship in the Carnival fleet" as I am a fan of the line for
families and people looking for a great cruise value!
The first thing I will say about the Splendor, is look past
(if you can) the ugliness of the decor in the public areas.
The main atrium and it's pink, silver and black color scheme
is well...atrocious. But hey--it's a Carnival ship--it's
ummmm, fun? If you can overlook that, the staterooms are
well appointed and tasteful, the kids areas are awesome, the
Lido deck, with it's cover for night and poolside Theater
screen are very fun and the nightclubs, most especially the
Piano Bar are great!
Entertainment and food on Carnival is actually quite good.
In fact, in comparison to others, I prefer Carnival's shows
most of the time. The performers are talented, and the
shows are well done.
Food in the dining room was very acceptable, with the
renowned Chocolate Melting Cake as wonderful as always! Do
not get off the ship without trying it.
Service onboard the Splendor was generally good. We did not
see our cabin steward and got no towel animals.. but I'll
assume that was a first time glitch, as it has not happened
on previous Carnival cruises I've taken.
Embarkation--a disaster--but I
KNOW they have that sorted out by now. Again, fairly
confident it was because of the 2-day cruise thing, and
being inaugural.
All in all, I thought it was a great value and will be
recommending it to my clients, especially as it makes it way
to the Mexican Riviera this spring.
