Carnival Splendor Cruise Review

Guy

Itinerary: Mexican Riviera
Sailing Date: June 20th, 2010
Age: 69
Occupation: Retired
Number of Cruises: 5

Warning, warning.........

I took my six-year old grand-daughter on the Mexican Riviera cruise on Carnival Splendor.

Let me start with the "not so bad stuff". First, after booking cabin 6456 with an extended balcony (I googled it.) everyone that wrote about it said "do not book this room". It is right above the El Morroco lounge speakers. So I rebooked on deck 10. Cabin 1032. Carnival charged me $100 to do so. OK..........

Next. Carnival booked my 6 year old grand-daughter and myself a flight in a city 220 miles away, round trip from my home for $860. I could have booked the very same flight for $718. 5:20 AM was the departing time. I would have to get up an hour before I usually go to bed to drive there in time. So I cancelled their flight (they charged me $320 to cancel and booked my own at an airport that is five miles round trip time from my home. Mine departed at 1:30 PM. I asked them "who gets the $320 for canceling, the airport or carnival? They refused to tell me(I guess we can figure out who got it). OK...........

OK, that's the "not so bad stuff".

After boarding the ship and exploring we went to check out our stateroom. It was about nine pm and we were tired from a long day. After turning out the lights, all I could hear was bam bam bam bam every second coming from above. That is 240 bams a minute, 24 hours a day. I am not exaggerating. I called housekeeping and told them what was going on. They said they would look into it. I called again at 9:30. I was told that I was below the gym and it closed at 10PM. (I knew I was below the gym because I looked at the deck plan when I booked 1032. I had called Carnival on about 10 occasions about one thing or another and on at least 3 times had asked about noise from above. Each time I was told that there would be no noise. It was very insulated I was told. After 3 different people told me this, I believed it).............

At 10:20 I went up stairs and saw someone running on one just above my room. I told the attendant and she said that he was supposed to stop at 10PM. She asked him to stop and he did. 11 o'clock, bam bam bam bam. I called and was told that the gym has been shut down. I called at 11:30, 12, 12:30. At 1 pm I went up to the gym again. The guests were gone but the crew was running. I called again and explained what was going on. A crew member came to my room and listened. She agreed that it was very loud and promised to stop it. Finally at 2PM I got to sleep.

6:15AM bam bam bam bam. All day, bam bam bam bam. I called housekeeping. Sorry. It opens at 6 AM. No sleep on Monday. Monday night the same thing as before. I kept calling. 1pm it finally stopped. 6:10AM Tuesday, bam bam bam bam. No sleep on Tuesday. I went down and demanded that Carnival refund my money and fly my grand-daughter and my self home. They promised they would stop the treadmills from 10 PM until 8 AM. More lies............

I could keep this up but you get the idea. I have to watch my grand-daughter 24 hours a day for eight days. I can't do this without sleep............

Losing sleep because it is your choice is very different from losing it because it is forced on you.

Three others close to my room also complained. One mentioned me and was told that everything was taken care of and that I was totally satisfied. Another lie. Anyway, it did stop at night and until about 9 AM in the morning the last 2 days............

They did end up giving me 20% cash back which was the same as spitting in my face............

As for food. It was kind of ok if you don't mind eating off of dirty dishes. Towards the end of the cruise, I was telling everyone about the dirty dished. Everyone seemed to already know...........

I'm not telling anyone not to cruise with Carnival. I'll leave that up to you. All I know is that Carnival has cured me of ever cruising again.
